What's the difference between speed and velocity? They sound the same.

Speed is how fast something moves. Velocity is speed in a given direction.

A car going round a roundabout at a steady 20 m/s has a constant speed, but its velocity keeps changing, because its direction does.

How it works

Ask a doubt. Get an answer that fits your course.

  1. 1

    Ask it your way

Type the question, or paste or drop in a photo of it. Pick the subject, and it knows which syllabus you're on.

  2. 2

We find it in your syllabus

Before answering, it works out which parts of the official syllabus your question touches, so the answer stays at your level.

  3. 3

    Then make it click

Ask for it shorter, simpler, in detail, with examples, as bullet points, or with a trick to remember it.

Not the whole internet. Your syllabus.

A general chatbot doesn't know what your examiner expects. This one starts from the Cambridge syllabus for your subject and level, then explains it in plain words.

  • Pitched at your level

An IGCSE answer for IGCSE, AS for AS. If part of the answer goes beyond your syllabus, it says so.

  • Shows its working

Each answer lists the syllabus points it drew on, so you can see where it fits in your course.

  • Says when you're wrong

If your question has a mistake in it, it points it out kindly instead of going along with it.

  • Knows what you find hard

It can link an answer to a topic you've struggled with, or a reason you keep losing marks, from your own work in the app.

  • Points you to a video

When there's a concept video on the topic your question touched, the answer links to it.

  • Beyond the syllabus, if you want

Curious about something your course doesn't cover? Switch on Beyond syllabus and it'll answer anyway.

The study assistant · early access

A tutor on every page.

Press ⌘K or Ctrl+K, or the Assistant button, and it opens beside whatever you're doing. It stays open as you move around the app, and fills the screen on a phone.

  • It sees what you see

Open a marked paper and ask why you lost marks on a question. Pause a concept video and ask what was just said; it knows the moment you're on.

  • It knows your revision

Your subjects, exams, weak topics and recent work. Ask “what should I study today?” and it suggests next steps with a button that opens each one.

  • It keeps your chats

Conversations are saved, so you can pick one up later or delete it.

Which subjects it knows best

Answers are checked against the official syllabus for these 18. AS students get AS content; A Level students get the full course. You can ask about other subjects too, just without a syllabus to check against.

A tutor, not a textbook

It's told to say when it isn't sure, and to flag anything outside your syllabus, but AI can still get things wrong. Use it to understand, then check anything you'll rely on in the exam against your notes, textbook or teacher. If an answer looks wrong, give it a thumbs down so we can look at it.

For the best answers

  • Pick the right subject, so it checks the right syllabus.
  • Ask one thing at a time, in your own words.
  • With a photo, crop it to the one question.
  • Tell it what you already think: it'll say what's right and what's missing.

AI tutor questions

What can I ask the AI tutor?

Anything you're studying: a concept you don't get, a definition, how a method works, the difference between two ideas, or what a mark scheme is looking for. Type it, or send a photo of the question. It sticks to studying, so it won't help with things that aren't schoolwork.

Does it stick to the Cambridge syllabus?

Yes, for the 18 syllabuses CIE Buddy is built around. It matches your question to the official syllabus for your subject and level, answers at that level, and tells you if any part goes beyond it. For other subjects, or the General option, it still answers but without a syllabus to check against.

Can I send a photo of a question?

Yes. In Ask Doubts you can attach, paste or drop in a photo or screenshot of the question. The study assistant takes up to two photos with a message.

Will it just do my homework for me?

The study assistant won't simply hand over the answer to work you've been set. It gives you a hint or the first step to try, then explains the method. For a paper you've already done and had marked, it explains in full why each mark was lost.

Can the AI tutor be wrong?

Yes, sometimes. It's told to say when it isn't sure rather than guess, but it can still make mistakes, so check anything important against your textbook, notes or teacher. If an answer looks wrong, tap the thumbs down so we can look at it.

Does it know how I'm doing?

It can see what you've done in CIE Buddy: marked papers, worksheets, the topics you've rated and the exams you've added. It uses that to tailor an answer or suggest a next step, and it's told never to make up scores or exams that aren't there.

Is it free?

Making an account is free, with your email or Google. The study assistant is in early access: you can try it once, then ask to join the early-access group, which is free to join.
