Example · 0625 · Paper 4
  1. (a)A car of mass 1200 kg accelerates from rest to 18 m/s in 6.0 s. Calculate the resultant force. [3]

    a = 18 ÷ 6 = 3 m/s²; F = ma = 1200 × 3 = 3600

  2. (b)State the useful energy change as the car speeds up. [1]

    chemical → kinetic

  3. (c)Explain why the car reaches a top speed. [2]

air resistance gets bigger as it goes faster

  1. 3600 N: unit needed
  2. …until it equals the driving force, so no resultant force

How it works

Three steps, and an examiner's red pen.

  1. 1

    Upload your answers

Scan the paper you've done into one PDF, up to 40 MB. Your phone's scanner or notes app is enough.

  2. 2

    We find the paper

We recognise it from its footer or its questions, then pull that exact paper's official mark scheme. You can also pick it yourself.

  3. 3

    It's marked, part by part

Each question is marked against the scheme as you watch. Marks appear on your script as each question finishes.

More than a score.

A number tells you how you did. The marking tells you where the marks went, so the next paper goes better.

  • Your score, question by question

The total, and how every question and part went.

  • Marks on your own script

Ticks and crosses where you wrote the answer, not in a separate report.

  • Why each mark was lost

Every lost mark says what the mark scheme wanted instead.

  • The mistakes you repeat

Lost marks grouped into patterns such as missing units, with how many marks each cost.

  • What to revise next

Results update your topic confidence, so the planner knows which chapters need work.

  • A link for your teacher

Share a view-only copy of the marking. Nobody else sees your script unless you do.

A guide, not an official mark

The marking follows the official scheme point by point, but it isn't a Cambridge examiner. It can misread handwriting, or miss a method the scheme would accept. When it isn't sure about a mark it says so, so you know which questions to check yourself.

For the best marking

  • Scan every page, in order, into one PDF.
  • Keep the page footers in: that's how the paper is recognised.
  • Write in dark pen, and keep working inside the answer space.
  • Upload one paper at a time.

Paper checker questions

How does the IGCSE paper checker work?

You upload a PDF of a Cambridge past paper you've answered. CIE Buddy recognises the paper, finds its official mark scheme and marks each question part against it, drawing the marks on your script and explaining every mark you lost.

Which papers can it mark?

Its paper bank has question papers and mark schemes from 2015 to June 2026 for over 100 IGCSE syllabuses and nearly 80 AS & A Level ones, including Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Business and Accounting. It marks multiple-choice and written papers.

Does it mark AS and A Level papers too?

Yes. The same checker marks AS and A Level papers, for example 9702 Physics, 9701 Chemistry and 9709 Mathematics.

How accurate is the marking?

It follows the official mark scheme point by point, but it's a guide, not an official grade. It can misread handwriting or miss an unusual method that an examiner would accept. Questions it isn't sure about are flagged, so check those against the scheme.

Is it free?

Your first paper is marked free. Paper marking is in early access, so after that you can ask to join the early-access group.

What file do I upload?

One PDF of your answer script, up to 40 MB, with every page in order. A clear scan of handwritten answers works; include the page footer so the paper can be recognised.

Who can see my paper?

Only you. If you make a share link, anyone with that link can view the marking without signing in, and shared markings are kept out of search engines.
