Your cards

Three ways to get a deck.

  1. 1

    Ready-made decks

Decks for your level, set out chapter by chapter in syllabus order. Pick a chapter and start: no typing, no setting up.

  2. 2

    Made from your notes

Paste a paragraph of notes and get cards that test you on it. Edit or delete any card before you save.

  3. 3

    Written by you

Type a question and an answer, file it under a chapter and section of your own, and add the next one.

Flip, rate, repeat.

Testing yourself shows what you actually remember. Each run is a chapter of cards, and your ratings decide what you see first next time.

  1. 1

    Pick a chapter

Open a chapter, or narrow it to the cards you starred or the ones you rated Hard. New cards are marked too.

  2. 2

    Flip and rate

Say the answer in your head, or type it, then flip the card and rate it Hard, Good or Easy.

  3. 3

    Hard cards come first

Next time the cards you found hardest are at the front. At the end of a run, repeat just the hard ones.

  • Explain this card

Not sure why the answer is right? The AI explains it. Typed your own answer? It says where you went wrong.

  • Star the important ones

Mark a card important and study only the starred cards before a test.

  • Keyboard shortcuts

Space to flip, 1 to 3 to rate, arrows to move and E to explain, so a run goes quickly on a laptop.

  • A video when you're stuck

Rate the same ready-made card Hard twice in a run, and you're offered the concept video for that chapter if there is one.

  • Cards from Ask Doubts

Got an answer worth remembering from Ask Doubts? Press Make flashcards and it goes into the card maker for you.

  • It counts towards your topics

Ratings on ready-made decks are recorded against the syllabus topics they cover, and show up in your insights.

Ready-made decks

Answer in your own words

Flipping a card makes it easy to tell yourself you knew it. Interactive Learn takes the same cards and asks you to write the answer. An AI tutor marks it, says what you missed, and your rating is set from how you did.

For better cards from notes

  • Paste one topic at a time. Long notes give vaguer cards.
  • Definitions, facts and short explanations work best.
  • Name the chapter, so the cards are easy to find later.
  • Read the cards before saving, and fix or delete any that aren't right.

Flashcard questions

Which subjects have ready-made IGCSE flashcards?

Accounting, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Economics, Information and Communication Technology and Physics. There isn't a ready-made Mathematics deck yet, but you can make your own from your notes.

Are there AS and A Level flashcards?

Yes, for Accounting, Biology, Business, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Information Technology, Physics and Psychology. AS and A Level have separate decks, and you see the one for the level on your profile. Some subjects, such as Biology, Chemistry and Computer Science, also have a practical-skills deck. There's no ready-made Mathematics deck yet.

Can I make flashcards from my own notes?

Yes. Paste your notes, give them a chapter name if you like, and CIE Buddy writes question-and-answer cards from them. You can edit or remove any card before saving. Shorter notes on one topic give sharper cards than a long page.

How does it decide which cards to show me?

You rate each card Hard, Good or Easy after flipping it. Next time, cards you rated Hard come first, then new ones, then Good, then Easy. At the end of a run you can repeat just the cards you found hard.

What if I don't understand a card?

Press Explain and the AI explains the answer. If you typed your own answer first, it tells you where you went wrong. If you rate a ready-made card Hard twice in one run, you're offered the concept video for that chapter when there is one.

Do flashcards count towards my revision progress?

Ratings on the ready-made decks do. They're recorded against the syllabus topics each chapter covers and show up in your insights. A flashcard counts for less than a marked past-paper question, because flipping a card is a lighter test.

Can I be tested on my flashcards instead of just flipping them?

Yes. Interactive Learn takes a chapter's cards and quizzes you on them: you answer in your own words, the AI tutor marks each answer, and shows you what you missed.
